BJP has hold over Whatsapp - Rahul Gandhi

Former Congress president and MP Rahul Gandhi once again targeted the BJP government over the link between Facebook and BJP. He has cited reports published in Time magazine about links between BJP and Facebook and attacked the failure to curb hate speech.

In his tweet, Rahul Gandhi said, 'America's Time magazine has exposed the nexus between WhatsApp and BJP. 40 crore Indians use it. WhatsApp wants it to be used for payment, which requires the approval of the BJP government. In this way, BJP has a hold on WhatsApp.

The Time magazine article described how Facebook has failed to investigate hate speech in the case of comments made by BJP leaders. These BJP leaders have violated the protocol regarding hate speech. The report described how a top Facebook official walked out of the meeting in which an employee brought up a post made by a BJP leader. In this post, the leader violated the rules regarding the abusive language of the company.

The Congress has written a letter to Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg, seeking to investigate alleged bias and the intervention of India's leadership team on social media in the country's electoral democracy. At the same time, the BJP has taken a dig at the opposition party and said that any organization which does not work for its (Congress's) choice is accused of working under pressure from BJP-RSS.

A recent Wall Street Journal report alleged that senior Facebook officials opposed the imposition of rules on some BJP leaders over indecent language. Since then, a verbal war between the opposition and the power has started in the country. Targeting the Congress, Ravi Shankar Prasad said that former Congress President Rahul Gandhi believes that those organizations which do not work to their liking are working under pressure from BJP and RSS.
